GRAND ISLAND - A 35-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries following a train–pedestrian accident Sunday afternoon in Grand Island.

According to Grand Island Fire Department Battalion Chief Ryan Seaman, crews responded around 1:00 p.m. to the 300 block of North Broadwell Avenue after receiving reports of a collision involving a train and a pedestrian. When emergency personnel arrived, the man was not pinned beneath the train.

First responders immediately began providing medical care at the scene before transporting the victim in serious condition to CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

The Grand Island Police Department also responded, and train traffic in the area was temporarily halted while crews worked.

Seaman reminded the public to follow railroad crossing signals, emphasizing that lowered crossing arms indicate an approaching train and that individuals should always look both ways before crossing tracks.
