North Shines with Three RBI in Baseball's 15-5 Loss at Miami
Coral Gables, Fla. -- Despite a three RBI day from shortstop Ben North, Creighton Baseball fell at Miami 15-5 as the Bluejays were swept by the Hurricanes on Sunday, March 22. The loss moved Creighton to 9-11 on the season, while Miami climbed to 18-6.
Bluejay starter Eli Nissen took the loss (0-1), allowing three runs on three hits and two walks in two innings. Miami reliever TJ Coats earned the win (3-0), allowing one run on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Down 3-0 after two frames, North brought Creighton within a run as he blasted an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall with two down in the inning.
Miami answered with three consecutive solo home runs in the third by Alex Sosa, Derek Williams and Brylan West. The Hurricanes tacked one three more in the fourth to lead 9-2.
Creighton rallied with three runs of its own in the fifth as Rocco Gump drew a one-out walk, then Nate McHugh turned an 0-2 count into a hit by pitch. North followed with an RBI double to left. With two down in the frame, Isaac Wachsmann lined a two-run double to left to bring Creighton back within striking distance at 9-5.
The Hurricane offense, however, refused to be denied. Miami scored one in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth to close out the game at 15-5.
There is no rest for the well traveled Bluejay squad as Creighton plays five games this week, all at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, beginning against Omaha on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00 pm and then faces South Dakota State on Wednesday, March 25.
