KHS Coach Cool Announces Retirement from Head Football Coach Position

KEARNEY, NE. — After 25 successful seasons, Kearney High School Coach Brandon Cool has announced his retirement from the head coaching position of the Bearcat Football team.

Coach Cool has been a long time leader in Kearney High School athletics, helping build a tradition of hard work, teamwork, and pride in the community. His guidance has helped many Bearcats find success on the field and in the classroom.

Reflecting on his time as head coach, Coach Cool shared, “We have developed over the years hard-working, dedicated, and competitive players that have been great role models for our youth. I have always been proud to say that our program has generated young men not only into student-athletes but also into individuals who will represent the community of Kearney well.”

“Coach Cool has built a program known for its strong tradition, sportsmanship, and excellence both on and off the field,” stated Ryan Hogue, KHS Athletic Director/Assistant Principal. “Under his leadership, the Bearcats have consistently been among the top football programs in the state, producing not only competitive teams but outstanding student-athletes and leaders. Personally, it has been an honor to work with coach Cool over the past eight years.  He exemplifies everything that is Kearney High Athletics.”

Coach Cool expressed his gratitude for the people who made his coaching career so meaningful, saying, “It has been an honor and a privilege to be the head football coach at Kearney High School. A special thanks to all the past and present assistant football coaches. As I have said before, there is no better coaching staff in the state of Nebraska than my staff that I have had the honor of working alongside. There is nothing better than playing high school  football under the Friday Night Lights!”

Dr. Jason Mundorf, Superintendent of Kearney Public Schools expressed his respect for Coach Cool,  “Coach Cool has been the epitome of hard work, excellence, and class during his tenure as our football coach. He has also set the standard for humility and sharing credit. When I congratulate him on any victory, he immediately praises the kids and his staff.  He is a first class leader.  One that really can't be replaced, you simply hope to continue the same modicum of success.”

The Kearney Public Schools Board of Education and district extends its gratitude to Coach Cool for his nearly two decades of dedication and service to Bearcat Nation.

A search for his successor will begin immediately.
