Grand Island Public Schools to Host “Board 101” Public Workshops

GRAND ISLAND (Neb.) — The Grand Island Public Schools (GIPS) Board of Education invites the public to attend their newly scheduled "GIPS Board 101" Workshops throughout January and February. These workshops are a unique opportunity for community patrons to gain insight at how the Board serves the students, staff, and families of Grand Island.

The free workshops are open to the public and will be held across the district’s three wards. Each session offers community members an inside look at the roles and responsibilities of serving on the Board of Education in a volunteer capacity.

With this being an election year for the GIPS Board of Education, and with the board currently having a vacancy for Ward A, the opportunity to learn more about serving on the Board felt right to share with the community.

“Having good board members is a critical part of what makes a school district work.” Matt Fisher, GIPS Superintendent, said. “The GIPS district needs to fill a board position in Ward A by mid February.  That need coupled with this being an election year made this an ideal time to provide the community with a chance to learn more about being a school board member.”

GIPS “Board 101” Workshop Schedule:
The Board invites all interested community members to attend one of the free upcoming workshops:

WARD A:  Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. at Westridge Middle School
