Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library is proud to announce that longtime volunteer Judy Brott has been recognized by the Nebraska Library Association (NLA) as a recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Volunteer Award.

The award is presented annually by the NLA to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to libraries across Nebraska through volunteer service. Brott was nominated by Volunteer Coordinator and Library & Foundation Coordinator Kim Mettenbrink, along with Library Assistant II Susie Cartwright, for her exceptional dedication to the Grand Island Public Library.

Brott was formally recognized during the NLA Advocacy Day event held at 10 a.m. on March 16 in Lincoln at the Nebraska State Bar Foundation. In her nomination, library staff highlighted Brott’s consistent commitment and positive impact on both the library and the broader community.

“Judy is an exceptional individual whose dedication and compassion have made a lasting impact on our library,” the nomination states. “Through countless hours of service, Judy has gone above and beyond her duties at the Welcome Desk, demonstrating genuine care for others and an unwavering commitment to making a positive difference for our library and community.”

Brott is known for her willingness to assist wherever needed, from stocking the library’s food pantry and preparing materials for book sales to helping patrons navigate library resources. Her positive attitude, reliability, and spirit of service have made her an invaluable part of the library team.

“Judy represents the very best of what it means to volunteer — a bright example of dedication, leadership, and heart,” the nomination continues. “We all love and appreciate Judy and feel she is an outstanding volunteer worthy of this award.”

The Grand Island Public Library extends its sincere congratulations and gratitude to Brott for her outstanding service and continued commitment to the community. For more information, contact Library Director Celine Swan at (308) 385-5333, Ext. 3101.
