(Grand Island, NE) - As the weather has gotten nicer, the construction activity has picked up along Hwy 30 west of Hwy 281. The realignment project has an approximate completion by June 2026.

The Nebraska Department of Roads hopes to help the traffic flow of almost 10,000 vehicles a day in and out of Grand Island. Four lanes will start west of GI at Monitor/Hwy 30. The stretch will then lead north of the current Hwy 30 east across Engelman Road, bending back to the north crossing Stolley Park Road, then curving around the Freedom Drive housing neighborhood and eventually tying into the existing Hwy 30 four lanes at Claude Road intersection before the overpass of 281.

Current paving is taking place between Claude Road and North Road. Eventually, North Road will be closed to connect what is already paved west of North Road and what is currently being constructed east of North Road.

The four-lane stretch from Engleman Road to almost North Road was completed before Christmas 2024. All of the concrete is being produced on site off Stolley Park Road just West of AKRS Equipment. The total cost of the project is just north of $33 million.

Currently, work is being completed to tie in the four lanes in the area of Hwy 30 and Monitor Road. Paving is then being worked on back to the east to Engleman Road.
