Three Bills introduced by local senators Went Before Hearings on Wednesday
District 33 State Senator Dan Lonowski of Hastings brought LB897 before the Judiciary Committee. LB897 allows municipalities and rural and suburban fire protection districts to charge a fee for the cost of extinguishing a fire to individuals who violate burn permit requirements. It also changes the penalty for violating burn permit requirements from a Class IV misdemeanor to a Class III misdemeanor.
District 34 State Senator Loren Lippincott of Central City presented LR 305 CA before the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee. LR 305 CA would place a question on the ballot to amend the state constitution to allow for the recall of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, Auditor of Public Accounts, or any member of the Legislature of the State of Nebraska.
LB723, from Grand Island Senator Dan Quick was the subject of a hearing before the HHS committee. The bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to implement certain processes and take up certain exemptions when implementing the work requirements for the Medicaid expansion population required by HR1. It also prohibits the department from implementing other Medicaid work requirements unless required by federal law.
