(St. Libory, NE) - A new rig is coming to the St. Libory Fire Department fleet, and when it finally arrives, it will be well worth the wait.

St Libory Fire Deparment president Luke Heaton tells KRGI News that the new $240,000 "Skeeter Type 5" grass fire truck project started nearly two and a half years ago.

The 400 gallon truck is currently going through the final checkover with Skeeter Emergency Vehicles in Hillsboro, Texas. Once complete in the Lone Star State, the truck will then go through the final inspection stage in Lincoln before arriving in St. Libory.

The funding for the Ford F-550 (7.6 Liter/Gas) truck comes directly from the St. Libory district. Heaton gives some of the features that come with the truck to enhance further safety and performance.

The Howard County Foundation assisted the department with a grant to add thermal imaging to the new truck and an additional grass fire truck. The current number one grass truck for St. Libory is 25 years old with 12,000 miles on it. Heaton says the truck will have a new home to another local department once the new truck arrives. This will be the newest addition to St. Libory since the Ambulance addition in 2018.

The department hopes to have the truck in St. Libory by March 14th to display for local community members to see during the annual soup supper fundraiser for the department.
