Sidney Sneaks Past GICC At Heartland Hoops Classic

(Grand Island, NE) - The Sidney Red Raiders would defeat the GICC Crusader boys on Saturday afternoon at the Heartland Hoops Classic 48-47. Sidney would get a late steal and score by Keian Kaiser of Sidney to make it 16-14 after one quarter. GICC would trail at halftime 25-21 after Thomas Liban would get a pass to Connor Haney going to the basket for a two-pointer to close down the 2nd quarter. GICC at half would be led by Braylon Wolfe with 6 points and Thomas Liban with 5 points. 

GICC would dig a hole of 37-29 going into the fourth quarter. Crusaders would be down 10 and then claw back in the final minutes. Braylon Wolfe would hit his third three-pointer of the game to cut the deficit down to three points 46-43 with 36 seconds remaining. GICC would then again be down three, 48-45 with 11 seconds left in the game. A Crusader timeout would give GICC one more opportunity to potentially tie the game to force overtime. GICC would get a Braylon Wolfe layup as the final four seconds would run off the clock to end the game. 

 With the win, Sidney moved their record to 15-7 with the win as the Red Raiders were coming off a 71-63 loss at Chadron on Friday night then traveled to Grand Island and arrived at the hotel at 1:30 am to then turn around and played the Crusaders at 2:45 pm. 

Central Catholic falls for just the fourth time this season as a six-game winning streak comes to an end as the Crusaders are now 18-4. GICC will have their regular-season finale on Friday, February 21st hosting St Paul.
