Sheldon Statewide Exhibition “Nebraska’s Legacy” Opens at Grand Island Public Library

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Public Library will open its presentation of the Sheldon Statewide exhibition “Nebraska’s Legacy” on Wednesday, January 7, and it will remain on display through Wednesday, February 4.

“Nebraska’s Legacy” represents more than a century of artistic creativity at the University of Nebraska and features works by both former and current university faculty. The exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs that reflect the evolution of these artists’ work and the influence of living and creating in Nebraska.

Artwork in the exhibition includes pieces by early University of Nebraska professors Cora Parker and Dwight Kirch, along with works by current faculty members Francisco Souto, Aaron Holz and Dana Fritz. The exhibition is part of Sheldon Statewide, an annual program launched in 1987 to share the Sheldon Museum of Art’s collection with communities across Nebraska.

During the 2025–2026 school year, “Sheldon Statewide: Nebraska’s Legacy” will travel to eight host communities and be viewed by thousands of visitors statewide. Exhibition locations include Chadron, North Platte, McCook, Grand Island, York, Beatrice, Fremont and Falls City.

The Grand Island Public Library serves residents of the City of Grand Island and Hall County. Anyone who lives in or owns property within Hall County may apply for a library card at no cost.
