Red Willow County Inmate Dies in Custody

It is with deepest sympathy that I report the passing of Blaine Allen Freichs while in custody of the Red Willow County Detention Center. The incident is being investigated by Nebraska State Patrol. We were also assisted initially by McCook Fire Department Paramedics and McCook Police Department.

Although the incident is still under investigation, there is, at least initially, no indication of trauma, self-imposed or otherwise. An autopsy has been ordered by County Attorney Paul Wood. We await those results.
