Puppies saved from Grand Island house fire
GRAND ISLAND - Several puppies were saved from a Grand Island house fire Tuesday afternoon.
The Grand Island Fire Department responded to Navajo Drive #9 around 3:40 p.m. to a structure fire. A passerby reported smoke billowing from the home. Battalion Chief Scott Kuehl said when crews arrived they quickly gained entrance into the home where they encountered a small fire on the floor. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in roughly 15 minutes.
While crews were in the home, they found a kennel with six puppies. Kuehl said they were able to safely remove the puppies. The dogs were unharmed.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical from a heating element, likely to keep the puppies warm.
No one was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
Damage from the fire was estimated to be $500.
All four GIFD stations responded.
