Public Meeting to be Held for State Street & 13th Street Improvements

Grand Island, Neb. — The City of Grand Island Public Works Department invites community members to a public meeting for the State Street and 13th Street Median Improvement Projects on Thursday, January 15 from 4-6 p.m. at the Grand Island Public Library.

The meeting will be held in an open-house style with no formal presentation, allowing attendees to come and go at their convenience. Participants will be able to learn more about the projects’ design and schedule. The project team will be available to answer questions.

For those unable to participate in person, all open house materials will also be made available online beginning January 14 on the City’s website.

The State Street and 13th Street improvements are part of the overall Claude Road/Diers Avenue improvements of several roadways in the City of Grand Island. The City plans to reconstruct State Street from Claude Road to Webb Road, and 13th Street from Claude Road to Allen Drive. Planned improvements include extended left turn lanes, new medians, new and reconstructed sidewalks, ADA Improvements, and storm sewer drainage improvements.

The project is planned over two construction seasons in 2026 and 2027. Construction on State Street is scheduled for the 2026 construction season, with work on 13th Street planned for the 2027 construction season.
