(Grand Island, NE) - On Tuesday Northwest senior Kylie Casperson announced on Twitter her commitment to play softball at Fort Hays State in Hays Kansas. One of three seniors on this past season's state championship team, Casperson was intricate in the circle as a pitcher but also playing first base and swinging the bat left-handing. Pitching this season Casperson had the majority of the innings for the Vikings with 127. She had an 18-4 record with a 4.22 ERA with 82 strikeouts. With the bat, Casperson had a 2023 average of .324, 33 hits, 22 singles, 7 doubles, 4 home runs, and 36 RBIs.

At Northwest Casperson was also a part of the 2022 state championship team along with going to state all four years in her high school career. She also finds herself 8th in school history with home runs in a career with 9 and 6th for RBIs in a career with 104. Casperson will also finish tied with Emily Stein for wins in a season with 18.

Casperson will be the 2nd player from Northwest in back-to-back years to advance to the college softball world to play for an MIAA softball school. Pitcher Ava Laurent part of the 2022 championship team is currently a freshman at Pittsburgh State.

Last year Fort Hays State finished with a 31-24 record going 13-13 in the MIAA Conference. The Tigers are head-coached by Adrian Pilkington who will be entering her 9th season with Fort Hays State for 2023.
