Northwest Girls Soccer Season Comes To An End

(Grand Island, NE) - On a beautiful Saturday morning for soccer, the Northwest Viking girls' squad fell one win short of qualifying for the NSAA state soccer tournament in Omaha, falling to Elkhorn by a final score of 2-1.

Elkhorn would get an early goal in the first ten minutes of the match to get a 1-0 advantage. Northwest later in the first would get a goal from Evie Keller off an assist from Lupe Sanchez to tie the match at 1-1.

In the second half Elkhorn would connect on a corner kick with a header goal to take a 2-1 lead and that would be enough to send the Antlers to the state soccer tournament for the second consecutive year. It would be the second time this season Northwest would fall to Elkhorn as the Antlers defeated the Vikings at Viking Field on April 8th by a final score of 2-1.

The Vikings end the year with a record of 15-3. Elkhorn, advancing to the Class B state soccer tournament, will take on Gretna East (17-0) on Wednesday, May 12th at Noon from Morrison Stadium in Omaha.
