Northwest Girls Down York, 3-1, To Claim B7 Sub-District

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest Viking girls soccer team would down York on Tuesday night by a final score of 3-1 to claim the Class B sub-district 7 championship.
Northwest would lead 1-0 at halftime as the Vikings would get a goal from senior Lupe Sanchez almost 12 minutes into the first half. The goal came on the day she officially signed to play college soccer at Concordia University in Seward, joining fellow senior Evie Keller. It was the 110th goal in Sanchez's career at Northwest and 27th on the season for the Viking leader.
In the second half, Northwest would tack on two more goals in the match as senior Anna Keller would score twice. Lupe Sanchez and Evie Keller would have the two assists on the night.
York is now 9-7 on the season. Coming into the night, the Dukes were sitting #15 in the power-point standings in Class B. York will stand by to see if they can sneak into a district final or if their season will come to an end.
Northwest, with the win, is now 15-2 on the season and will now play in a district final on Saturday, May 10th. The time of the match and the opponent are to be announced. The winner of the district final will advance to the state soccer tournament in Omaha.
