Northwest Basketball Splits Road Trip With Beatrice

(Beatrice, NE) - The Northwest basketball teams traveled to Beatrice on Friday night. The Lady O claimed the girl's game 46-34. Northwest would get off to a slow start trailing 15-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Vikings would be down 22-14 at halftime and also trail going into the fourth quarter 36-25. Reagan McIntyre would lead Northwest with 9 points, Laiken Dorsey 8, and Evie Keller had 7. The Viking girls are now 14-7 on the season and will be back in action Monday with a makeup date game at Schuyler. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm. The Vikings were to travel to Schuyler on Feb. 7th but the game was canceled as Schuyler had the flu bug.
The Northwest boys would win their 15th game of the season Friday night defeating the Orangemen 52-41. The game would be far from clean as Northwest would have 18 turnovers in the game. Beatrice would have 17 in the contest. The Vikings would open up the game with a 7-0 start but then Beatrice would come back and take a 10-9 lead to end the first quarter. Northwest would then apply full-court pressure to force turnovers and get quick scores building a 28-18 lead going into halftime. The Vikings would have a 16-11 3rd quarter to lead 44-29 going into the 4th. Beatrice would try to make a push in the fourth quarter outscoring Northwest 12-8 but ultimately would fall short. Northwest was led in scoring by Cam Walker and Jaden Brandt each scoring 12 points a piece. Luke Jensen would chip in 10 points. Northwest is now 15-7 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 20th at Elkhorn North. It will be the final girl/boy doubleheader on 103.1 FM & 2dayfm1031.com wrapping up the regular season.
