Nebraska December 2024 Grain and Hay Stocks
LINCOLN, Neb. January 10, 2025 - Nebraska corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2024 totaled 1.36 billion bushels, up 1% from 2023, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 830 million bushels are stored on farms, down 7% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 532 million bushels, are up 16% from last year.
Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 226 million bushels, up 6% from last year. On-farm
stocks of 68.0 million bushels are down 22% from a year ago, while off-farm stocks, at
158 million bushels, are up 25% from 2023.
Wheat stored in all positions totaled 39.4 million bushels, up 57% from a year ago. On-farm
stocks of 3.70 million bushels are up 3% from 2023, and off-farm stocks of 35.7 million bushels
are up 66% from last year.
Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 16.7 million bushels, up 48% from last year. On-farm
stocks of 3.30 million bushels are up 106% and off farm holdings of 13.4 million bushels are up
38% from last year.
Oats stored in all positions totaled 745,000 bushels, down 63% from last year. On-farm stocks of
500,000 bushels are up 32% and off farm holdings of 245,000 are down 85% from 2023.
Hay stocks on Nebraska farms totaled 4.30 million tons on December 1, 2024, up 12% from a
year earlier.
Grain storage capacity in Nebraska totaled 2.19 billion bushels, unchanged from December 1,
2023. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 1.20 billion bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 990 million bushels of off-farm storage, unchanged from last year.
