Lincoln East Defeats Grand Island, 3-1

(Grand Island, NE) - Two of Class A's top two teams went head to head on the diamond Monday night at Ryder Park as Lincoln East defeated Grand Island 3-1. 

The two teams would be scoreless through three innings. Lincoln East would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th. Grand Island would answer with one run in the bottom of the 5th to make it 2-1 Spartans. Lincoln East tacked on one insurance run in the top of the 6th to make it 3-1. 

The Islanders would have two runners on base in the 7th but would come up empty to try to tie the game and force extra innings. Sam Dinkelman would have two hits and the lone RBI in the game for Grand Island. Trent Verplank would also have two hits in the game for the Islanders. 

Grand Island falls for the first time this season and is now 3-1. The Islanders will be back in action on Thursday, April 3rd at Millard South. Pregame will start at 1:45 pm on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com.
