Jake Redman Named Head Softball Coach at Kearney High School
Kearney Public Schools is proud to announce that Jacob (Jake) Redman has been named the Head Softball Coach at Kearney High School beginning with the 2026 season.
Redman brings strong leadership experience and a deep understanding of the game to the Bearcat softball program. After more than a decade of coaching both high school and American Legion baseball in Kearney and Grand Island, Redman joined the softball coaching staff in the fall of 2023 and has served as the junior varsity coach for the past three seasons. His commitment to teamwork, player development, and character-building aligns with the core values of Kearney High School athletics.
“I am honored and excited to lead the Kearney High School softball team,” said Redman. “We have a talented and hardworking group of athletes, and I look forward to building on our strong tradition while helping our players grow and represent Kearney High School with pride both on and off the field.”
Kearney High School Athletic Director Ryan Hogue expressed enthusiasm about the appointment. “Jake is an outstanding choice to lead our softball program well into the future,” said Hogue. “He has earned the full respect of our student-athletes both in and out of the classroom. Parents consistently speak highly of Coach Redman, noting how much their daughters respect him and enjoy playing for him. With extensive experience coaching both softball and baseball, he brings a deep understanding of the game, player development, and team dynamics. He has a clear vision for fostering a culture of integrity, teamwork, and competitiveness to compete consistently in the HAC conference and Class A. We’re thrilled to have him leading the Bearcats softball program well into the future.”
The Bearcat softball team competes in the highly competitive Nebraska Class A division and continues to build on a strong legacy of athletic and academic achievement.

About Jake Redman
A Kearney Native and 2012 Kearney High Graduate, Redman has been teaching Social Studies at his alma mater since 2022. He is also a member of the Kearney High Baseball and Kearney American Legion Baseball coaching staffs, and has been coaching high school athletics since 2014. Outside of athletics, Redman helps sponsor Kearney Tackles Cancer and, alongside his family, helps run the Mary Kay Redman Memorial Foundation.
