Michigan scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning and added one more in the ninth in Nebraska’s 3-1 loss to the Wolverines on Sunday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (26-26, 13-14 Big Ten) scored one run on seven hits and an error, while Michigan (32-19, 14-13 Big Ten) totaled three runs, six hits and an error.

Joshua Overbeek was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Riley Silva, Cayden Brumbaugh, Dylan Carey and Hogan Helligso tallied one hit each.

Jackson Brockett pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Drew Christo dropped to 1-2 on the season after surrendering a run on three hits with a pair of punchouts and a walk in 2.2 innings of work.

Luke Broderick allowed a solo homer and recorded an out, before Grant Cleavinger tallied the final two outs for the NU bullpen.

Michigan broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second with a two-out solo home run into the left-field berm.

The Huskers threatened in the bottom of the sixth with consecutive singles from Overbeek and Brumbaugh to begin the inning, but the next three Huskers were retired to keep it a 1-0 game.

Nebraska took advantage of a Michigan error in the seventh to tie the game at one. Helligso reached on a two-out walk, before Silva reached on a fielding error to put runners on first and third with two outs. Overbeek blooped an RBI single to left-center field to tie the game at one through seven innings.

The Wolverines had the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the eighth after a walk, bunt single and throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt. The Huskers picked off the baserunner at second to record the first out with runners on the corners.

An RBI bunt single down the first-base line gave Michigan a 2-1 advantage going into the bottom of the eighth.

Carey laced a double to left-center field and Devin Nunez drew a full-count walk to put runners on first and second with two outs for the Huskers in the bottom of the eighth, but a groundout to first put a halt to the Big Red’s threat.

A one-out solo homer into the berm in left field in the top of the ninth inning stretched Michigan’s lead to 2-1.

Nebraska concludes the regular-season slate with a three-game set at Purdue on Thursday-Saturday, May 15-17 in West Lafayette, Ind.
