Hastings College Professor Speaking at GIPL

Grand Island, Neb. — Through the years, unwed Americans have received advice from just about everything. From relationship guides and magazines to newspapers and other literature, if you want advice you can find it.

On Sunday, February 2 at 2 p.m., you can find even more advice by joining the Grand Island Public Library for “How to Be Single: A History of Advice Literature to Unmarried Adults in the 20th Century,” by Hastings College Associate Professor Dr. Catherine Biba.

Dr. Biba will present some highlights (and low points!) of help suggested to unwed men and women of the 20th century in Meeting Room BC at the Grand Island Public Library.

Dr. Biba is a faculty member in the Department of History, Philosophy and Religion at Hastings College. She earned her B.A. in English and History from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and M.A. and PhD from Cornell University. Her research and teaching interests include gender and the history of the American family, with particular emphasis on the experiences of single, never-wed women in mid-century America.
