Grand Island Police Department, AARP Nebraska Team Up on Cryptocurrency Kiosk Fraud Prevention Initiative

Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department and AARP Nebraska Fraud Fighter volunteers will partner on a community fraud prevention initiative involving educational visits to local businesses with cryptocurrency kiosks on Friday, December 19.

It’s all part of a statewide effort to increase awareness about cryptocurrency kiosk fraud and to provide business owners and customers with clear information and resources to help prevent fraud.

On Friday, December 19, AARP Nebraska Fraud Fighter volunteers will meet with GIPD officers at 10 a.m. at the Law Enforcement Center. From there, volunteers and officers will split into two groups to visit four business locations that have cryptocurrency kiosks.

Members of the media are invited to attend and may follow either group during the visits. Group 1 will visit Lobo Market (224 E. 4th Street), and Group 2 will visit Get ‘N Split (3320 Langenheder Street). Both groups will reconvene at 3rd Street Trees (305 N. Broadwell Avenue) at approximately 11 a.m., before proceeding to the final visit at CVS (1710 W. 2nd Street), at approximately 11:15 a.m.

At each location, AARP volunteers and GIPD officers will provide warning signage stickers and educational materials about cryptocurrency kiosk fraud. Either a GIPD officer or a business representative will place the warning signage on the kiosk. Volunteers also will complete a post-visit report that will be logged by AARP Nebraska and shared with GIPD.
