Good Samaritan & St. Francis earn an ‘A’ for patient safety–Two of only three hospitals in the state

CHI Health

KEARNEY & GRAND ISLAND–CHI Health Good Samaritan and CHI Health St. Francis have both received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade rating from The Leapfrog Group. An “A” rated hospital sets the standard for excellence in patient care, being recognized for their ability to protect patients from medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

Only three hospitals in Nebraska achieved an “A” rating, the highest achievement possible, from the national non-profit watchdog group. This marks the third consecutive “A” for St. Francis and the fourth “A” rating for Good Samaritan.

“Receiving these respected quality awards speaks volumes about the incredible talent and dedication within our hospital. This success is a shared one, and it inspires us all to continue striving for the very best for our patients, every single day,” states Steve Schieber, president, St. Francis.

“For our patients, these quality awards are a powerful assurance. When you choose our hospital, you are choosing a facility rigorously evaluated and recognized for providing care that consistently meets the highest national standards. It offers peace of mind when it matters most,” say Curt Coleman, president, Good Samaritan.

The biannual Leapfrog Safety Grade is an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” assigned to general hospitals across the country based on 22 performance measures.

CHI Health Midlands in Papillion, a fellow CommonSpirit member, also received an "A" rating. Eighty-six percent of eligible CommonSpirit hospitals received A or B Leapfrog safety grades, compared to 58% of hospitals nationwide.

About the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only ratings program focused exclusively on accidents, errors, injuries and infections that harm or kill patients in hospitals. It is updated twice a year in the fall and spring, offering the public a reliable, independent assessment of hospital safety. The grades are determined by public, peer-reviewed methodology, calculated by top patient safety experts under the guidance of a National Expert Panel. The grading system is fully transparent and always freely available to the public at hospitalsafetygrade.org. The Safety Grade is published by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization celebrating 25 years of driving a movement for giant leaps for patient safety.
