GIPD Officers, Community Volunteers to Wrap & Deliver “Santa Cop” Gifts
Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department will be hosting its annual Santa Cop gift wrapping and delivery event on Tuesday, December 23 in the Community Meeting Room of the Law Enforcement Center starting at 5 p.m.
The Santa Cop program is part of GIPD’s ongoing commitment to supporting local families during the holiday season. Each year, the Santa Cop program collects monetary donations and gifts from the community to provide holiday support for families in need. This year’s effort included an especially impactful contribution from a local community group that not only donated a large number of gifts, but raised an additional $7,000 to purchase additional presents for eight local families.
A team of Grand Island Police officers and community volunteers will gather to wrap gifts beginning at 5 p.m. on December 23, with deliveries to Santa Cop families taking place immediately afterward.
“We wrap in one night and deliver in one night, just like Santa” GIPD Lt. Jason Allan said. “It’s amazing. These families are great folks, and they just need a little boost this time of year. To see that and know you made an impact on their life – it really means the world.”
Santa Cop has been a long-standing tradition for the Grand Island Police Department, allowing officers to build meaningful connections with families while ensuring children and parents alike experience the joy of the holiday season.
