(Grand Island, NE) - The Grand Island Home Federal baseball team rallied in the bottom of the 6th inning to defeat Hastings Five Points Bank on Tuesday night at Ryder Park, 6-5.

Hastings got on the board in the first inning when Jackson Sughroue hit a solo home run to left field that bounced off the scoreboard. Hastings then would add on two runs in the second inning on a Sughroue 2 RBI double.

GI would get back in the contest going into the bottom of the third inning when Ian Arends would hit a solo home run to right field, and Home Federal would also scratch across a run on a wild pitch to make the deficit 3-2.

GI would then trail 5-2 after giving up a run in the fourth and the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth GI rallied, scoring four runs. One run would come around on a wild pitch. Then Trent Verplank would fly out, scoring a run from third. As the ball was thrown from right field, it would go past the Hastings catcher, allowing Grayson Sack to score from 2nd base. Ian Arends would then add to his night with an RBI single to take the lead for Grand Island, 6-5.

Miles Nelson would come in and pitch in relief for Grand Island after starting pitcher Gabe Ruiz would get hit in the face with a comebacker in the 3rd inning. Ruiz stayed in the game and finished the half inning, but would then come out of the contest with Nelson entering in the top of the 4th and finishing the game out to gather the win.
