Fire Crews Continue Battling Active Wildfires in Custer County

Nebraska State Fire Marshall Agency

February 26, 2025 BROKEN BOW, Neb. – Fire crews are actively battling three wildfires in Custer County, with efforts focused on containment and monitoring hot spots.
East Table Road Fire: 475 acres, 30% contained
Lillian Fire: 900 acres, 30% contained
Eureka Valley Fire: 2,750 acres, 70% contained
The East Table Road Fire, which ignited Tuesday night, is burning approximately three miles northeast of Merna, primarily in canyon areas. In addition, crews are working to suppress and monitor hot spots on the Lillian Fire and Eureka Valley Fire, both located in the Merna Fire District.

In addition, crews are working to contain a new fire start on the northeast flank of the Eureka Valley Fire, currently estimated at approximately 60 acres. Firefighters are actively responding to prevent further spread. At this time, no evacuations have been issued. However, several individuals in the impacted areas have been notified of the situation. State resources have been deployed to assist local fire crews in containment efforts.

Due to ongoing fire activity across the region, the Broken Bow Fire Department has suspended all burn permits until further notice.
Officials urge the public to avoid the affected areas to ensure the safety of both residents and emergency responders.

Increased Fire Danger on Friday
Weather conditions continue to pose significant challenges. The majority of Nebraska will be under “extreme” fire danger on Friday, raising concerns about potential fire restarts and rapid fire spread. Fire officials urge residents to remain vigilant, avoid any activities that could spark a fire, and adhere to local fire restrictions.

While community support is always appreciated, donations are not needed at this time. Should that change, updates will be posted on Custer County’s official social media channels.
