GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA – EPIC Discovery Center is excited to announce the hiring of Scott Mazour as its new Program Development Manager. Mazour brings over two decades of leadership experience in education and program development, making him a valuable addition to the EPIC team.
"We are thrilled to welcome Scott to the EPIC team," said Alison Larson, Executive Director of EPIC Discovery Center. "His extensive background in education and leadership, combined with his passion for innovation, will be invaluable as we create dynamic, hands-on STEAM programming for area youth."
Mazour has a long-standing commitment to promoting academic excellence, fostering student engagement, and cultivating community collaboration. Before joining EPIC Discovery Center, he served as principal at Cedar Hollow School and 1-R School, both part of Northwest Public Schools, where he spearheaded initiatives that significantly improved student achievement, developed innovative educational programs, and strengthened school-community partnerships. His leadership experience encompasses curriculum development, the integration of social-emotional learning, and the expansion of student opportunities through clubs and mentorship programs.
"I am so excited to be part of the EPIC team! It is truly a wonderful organization dedicated to serving our kids,” said Mazour. “I look forward to helping create amazing opportunities and memories for the youth of the Grand Island area as part of our EPIC experience!"
In his new role at EPIC Discovery Center, Mazour will lead the development and implementation of dynamic, hands-on educational programs that align with the center’s mission to inspire learning through interactive experiences. He will oversee program logistics, collaborate with educators and community partners, and enhance engagement opportunities for children and families.
EPIC Discovery Center is an emerging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math)-based children's museum that will provide exhibits and programming for youth of all ages. EPIC will be located within Ryder Park, a centralized location that is accessible to everyone and offers many quality-of-life amenities. The center is expected to open in early 2026.
The development of EPIC began in 2019 to address the need for more enriching opportunities for local youth. Currently, there are very few positive, safe environments for children and teens in the area, and families often travel outside of Grand Island for educational museum experiences. EPIC Discovery Center will provide more than 15,000 square feet of exhibits and programming designed specifically for children, tweens, and teens in Grand Island and the surrounding areas.
EPIC Discovery Center is actively raising funds for its "Explore Possibilities, Inspire Creativity" capital campaign. In 2024, the center reached its first major milestone of $10 million, thanks in part to a matching grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. In 2025, EPIC is focused on reaching its final goal of $14.2 million, ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of its mission to provide enriching educational experiences for the community.
The mission of EPIC Discovery Center is to engage families in exploring creativity and community through experience-based learning and play. Donations and pledges to support the effort to bring a children’s museum to Grand Island can be made through the EPIC Discovery Center website or by calling 308-392-3457.
