Elkhorn Nips Northwest Girls, 2-1

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest girls soccer team would fall for the first time on Tuesday night at Viking Field as the Elkhorn Antlers would defeat the Vikings by a final score of 2-1.
Elkhorn would knock in a goal a little over three minutes into the match to hold a 1-0 lead for the rest of the first half. 10 minutes into the 2nd half, things would pick up with both teams. Elkhorn would score on a free kick, and then Northwest would answer about 30 seconds later with a Lupe Sanchez goal as the Vikings would trail 2-1. The Vikings would try to press for the tying goal to end regulation, but would come up empty. Ava Smith had an attempt on goal in the final minute, but the ball off her foot would hit the bottom of the top bar and take a sharp turn down to the turf, but just miss crossing the goal line.
Northwest is now 6-1 on the season. The Vikings girls & boys will be back in action on Thursday, traveling to Lexington. The Minutemaids are 3-3 on the season, the Minutemen are 7-2. The Northwest boys are 3-3 on the season.
