Crusaders Qualify For a B District Final Series Despite Second Place Sub Finish

GICC Crusader Softball

The Grand Island Central Catholic Softball team has qualified for a Class B District final series despite a 1-1 finish at the B8 Sub-district on Tuesday.  Listen to Maria Tibbett's post tourney interview with Steve Stein.

GICC edged Aurora 9-8 in the semis. The Crusaders took the lead three times against the Huskies but Aurora battled to tie each time.  Anna Tibbetts singled home Laura Blake with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Tibbetts went 3-5. Jacie Palik was 3-4, doubled and scored three times. Shaylee Meister and Jocelynn Price each had two hits. Logan Rainforth went the distance and allowed only six hits and two earned runs.

For Aurora, Kennedy Kleinschmidt doubled and knocked in three. Adrianna Brei had two RBI. We'll have an interview wrapping up the Huskies' season with Ashton Voss on a later post.

The Crusaders took an early lead in the championship game. But York plated three unearned runs in the fifth and went on to a 6-3 win. Tibbetts and Grace Watson each went 2-3.

Despite the 1-1 finish, GICC jumped two spots to 15th in the power points. GICC plays at Blair in the B2 District Final series Friday. Coverage begins at 11:45am on AM 1430 KRGI/105.5 FM.
