Creighton Men's Basketball Drops Road Game at Georgetown

Creighton Mens Basketball

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A 12-0 second half run was too much for Creighton to overcome in a 76-68 loss at Georgetown on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena.

Georgetown (13-10, 5-7 BIG EAST) salvaged the season split with the win over Creighton (12-11, 6-6 BIG EAST) to earn its fourth consecutive league victory.

Both teams started sluggishly on the offensive end before CU put together a 7-0 run in a one-minute span to take a 27-24 lead. The Hoyas would tie it before a Nik Graves basket in the final two seconds of the first half gave CU a 29-27 lead at the break. Creighton shot 14-of-29 overall in the first half despite 1-for-11 marksmanship from deep. Jasen Green led CU with 10 points and Graves added eight points and four assists before the break. GU was paced by seven points from Malik Mack, but failed to score following any of its nine offensive rebounds.

Georgetown broke free from the Bluejays in a hurry in the second half. With CU leading 34-33, Mack hit a three-ball. Vincent Iwuchukwu followed with a three-point play before baskets by Mack, KJ Lewis and Iwuchukwu helped the Hoyas to a 45-34 advantage.

Georgetown maintained a double-digit lead much of the second half before a late Bluejay rally. Fedor Zugic made three three-pointers in the final 91 seconds to help CU draw within 74-68 with 36.5 seconds left, but the Jays got no closer.

Green topped the Bluejays with 12 points and eight rebounds, Zugic had 11 points and Graves finished with 11 points and five assists. Freshman Hudson Greer scored eight points off the bench.

Lewis had 22 points and Mack added 20 points for the Hoyas, while Iwuchukwu had 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Hoyas won the rebound battle 46-38, including 17 offensive rebounds.

Creighton returns home to welcome Seton Hall to CHI Health Center Omaha on Saturday at 5 p.m. in a game that will be broadcast on 1620 The Zone and Peacock.
