CHI Health Awards $151,500 to Five Local Non-Profits

CHI Health

Kearney & Grand Island-CHI Health recently awarded $151,500 in grants to five central Nebraska non-profit organizations to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable and underserved populations. The CommonSpirit Community Health Improvement Grants program addresses some of the greatest health needs in the region by emphasizing prevention, engaging community stakeholders and building upon existing services in the community.

In Kearney, CHI Health Good Samaritan awarded $52,500 to Buffalo County Community Partners and $24,000 to HelpCare Clinic–Kearney-based non-profits the hospital helped establish.

“Our mission of improving and maintaining health extends beyond the care we can provide to patients in our hospital and clinic, and these grants help provide services in additional community settings,” said Kimber Bonner, vice president patient care services, Good Samaritan. “The grants are a reflection of Good Samaritan’s local commitment to working toward a healthier future for all.”

In Grand Island, CHI Health St. Francis awarded $27,500 to the First Light Child Advocacy Center, $27,500 to the Multicultural Coalition of Grand Island and $20,000 to the Third City Community Clinic.

“These grants are one of the many ways St. Francis puts our mission and values into practice. Supporting access to vital services delivered by non-profits in our community helps ensure individuals and families are able to obtain the services they need, and contributes to overall well-being of our region,” said Steve Schieber, president, St. Francis.

CommonSpirt, of which CHI Health is a member, offers the grant program annually to improve community health and enhance local service systems. Collaborating 501(c)3 non-profit organizations apply to Good Samaritan and St. Francis to receive grant funds to address significant issues identified in local community health needs assessments.
