CCC Takes Two Military Friendly Honors

Central Community College

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Central Community College took second place in two categories in the 2025-26 Military Friendly School rankings for small community colleges.

CCC placed second overall in the Military Friendly School list, which is a repeat of last year’s finish. CCC also placed second in the Military Spouse Friendly School rankings, which rates the services provided to spouses of active-duty military personnel.

Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2025-26 survey with 830 earning special awards for going above the standard.

The Military Spouse Friendly School list is created using data sources from federal agencies and proprietary survey information from participating organizations to create a comprehensive guide for military spouses looking to further their education.

Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of its ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

“The veteran and military services team is thrilled to receive the Military Friendly and Military Spouse Friendly rankings on behalf of our veteran and military connected students,” said Barry Horner, director of veterans and military services. “The survey results reflect this team’s unwavering support for and the educational successes achieved by our military connected students here at CCC. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our fellow veterans and service members in their continued success.”

“Central Community College is honored to provide educational opportunities and support for the men and women who have selflessly served our communities, state and nation as well as for the family members of these individuals who have also sacrificed much,” said Dr. Elizabeth Klitz, vice president of student success and enrollment management.

CCC’s veterans and military resource centers – located at the Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings campuses and the Kearney Center – provide support to active duty, reservist and National Guard members; veterans; and their family members. In addition to military education benefits, the VMRC assists with transferring military credit, scholarships, career planning and registration as well as access to military-related resources and programs.

“I am very proud of the success of our students and the collective support and dedication of our veterans resource staff, faculty and administrators that come together to make those results possible,” said CCC President Dr. Matt Gotschall.

The 2024-25 Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May and October issues of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
