Tysons, Va. -- A trio of Bluejays stepped to the forefront to help Creighton Baseball take a step closer to the BIG EAST Regular Season Title with a 5-3 win over Georgetown on Thursday, May 15.

The win moved Creighton to 36-14 on the season and 15-4 in BIG EAST contests, while Georgetown fell to 16-38 overall and 3-16 in conference games.

Creighton's impactful trio were catcher Connor Capece who finished with three hits, 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Will MacLean blasted a go ahead two-run home run in the seventh and starter Dominic Cancellier gave the Bluejays another quality start.

The Bluejays took the lead in the top of the second as Capece and Teddy Deters delivered consecutive one-out singles, then Dakota Duffalo laced an RBI single to right.

Georgetown pulled even in the third via a solo home run to left center by Ashton Seymore.

Still deadlocked at 1-1 as the game moved to the seventh, Capece lined his third single of the game up the middle. With two down in the frame MacLean battled Georgetown starer JT Raab through an 11-pitch at-bat, eventually blasting a ball over the wall in right-center to give Creighton a 3-1 edge. The Bluejays tacked on a run in the frame with singles from Duffalo and Kyle Hess, followed by an RBI double off the bat of Tate Gillen.

Creighton tacked on an insurance run in the ninth, scoring on an RBI grounder from pinch hitter Jack Torosian.

The Hoyas made things interesting in the ninth with three straight singles, but the next three hitters resulted in outs to seal the win.

Cancellieri was dominant for the second consecutive week, moving to 2-1 on the season. He limited the Hoyas to one run on three hits over seven innings, notching seven strikeouts. Garrett Langrell picked up his 11th save of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) over two innings. Georgetown starter JT Raab fell to 4-3, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.2 frames.

The Bluejays and Hoyas continue their three-game series on Friday, May 16 at 3:00 p.m. (CT).
