Black Hills Energy announces continuation of Funds for Firefighters grant project
Kearney, Nebraska – Volunteer firefighters are essential to the safety and resilience of rural communities. For the second consecutive year, the Black Hills Corporation Foundation is proud to honor and support these vital community members.
Last year, the Funds for Firefighters program awarded 63 grants totaling $135,000 to 59 volunteer fire departments across the communities served by Black Hills Energy. This year, $140,000 in grant funding is available, with the goal of reaching additional departments that could not be supported previously.
All volunteer fire departments within Black Hills Energy’s service territory are eligible to apply for a grant of up to $2,500 to purchase firefighting equipment. Please note that operational expenses are not eligible; funding is limited exclusively to equipment needs.
The 2026 grant application is now available at www.blackhillsenergy.com/firefighters.
Only fire departments serving Black Hills Energy territories are eligible for this grant program. The application period is open from March 2 through April 10. Grant recipients will be notified in mid-May.
