Basketball: GICC Splits At Doniphan Trumbull
(Doniphan, NE) - Late Saturday afternoon games saw GICC girls and Doniphan Trumbull boys pick up wins on the hardwood. The Crusader girls rolled to a 59-28 victory moving their record to 11-1. GICC defeated Kearney Catholic the night before by a score of 44-32. The Crusaders held a 21-5 first-quarter score. Led at halftime 36-12 and continued to cruise and the end of the third quarter 45-17. GICC was led in points by Bryndal Moody with 19. DT was led by Charlee Richter with 14 points. Doniphan Trumbull girls are now 5-6, and GICC with the win is now 11-1.
On the boy's side. Doniphan Trumbull rolled to a 57-22 victory. The first quarter saw a six-point margin of 13-7 DT with the advantage. The Cardinals would open the game up in the second quarter only giving up two points and scoring 17 of their own to take a halftime lead of 30-9. The Cardinals once again would outscore GICC in the third quarter by 17-2 to lead 47-11. Doniphan Trumbull was led in scoring by sophomore Jack Poppe with 15. GICC was led in scoring by Thomas Birch with 5 points. DT is now 10-1, while the Crusaders drop to 4-8.
Both schools & teams will be back in action on Tuesday, January 9th. Doniphan Trumbull hosts Centura, while GICC heads to York. Listen to Crusader action Tuesday at York on KRGI 1430/105.5 & krgi.com. Girls at 6:00 pm with the boys to follow at 7:30 pm.
