100 years: Good Samaritan invites public to FREE picnic

KEARNEY, NE- In honor of its 100th birthday, CHI Health Good Samaritan invites the community to a celebration!

A free, old-fashioned picnic lunch will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, on the south lawn near the original 1924 entrance of the hospital at 31st Street and Central Ave. Hot dogs, chips, cupcakes, and icecream will be served. Brief remarks led by hospital president Curt Coleman will begin at noon.

The celebration will also include live music, bounce houses, summer safety for kids, and peek inside a real ambulance. In Parking Lot N, just north of the hospital, AirCare’s medical helicopter and crew will land for a meet and greet complete with tours of the ship.

Parking for the event is available in the hospital’s south parking lots and on the street.

Since opening its doors on July 23, 1924, Good Samaritan has been a leader in the region, not only caring for the sick and injured, but devoting resources to programs and services that benefit the health of the community.

During the past 100 years, Good Samaritan has expanded 10 times, was Nebraska’s first accredited Chest Pain Center, established the region's only Level II trauma center featuring AirCare emergency helicopter transport, and serves as a nationally accredited cancer center. Today, the hospital employs nearly 1,000 talented professionals and provides 350,000 residents of central Nebraska and northern Kansas with advanced health care.
