Early Friday The 13th Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

(Grand Island, NE) - On Friday, January 13th just before 1:00 am Grand Island Police observed a white Dodge Durango traveling west on Faidley Ave from Orleans Drive with expired license plates. A review of the registration confirmed that the registration was expired as of March 31st of 2022. A traffic stop was conducted with the driver and lone occupant identified as Tanner Nelson. Nelson was identified by his Nebraska Identification Card. The officer conducted a records check while at the door and was advised Nelson had two active arrest warrants. The officer then instructed Nelson to open the door and he refused to do so while attempting to make phone calls and moving about in the cab of the vehicle.

Nelson would then eventually open the door after the officer advised that force would be used to access the interior of the vehicle. Nelson admitted to knowing that he was going to go to jail due to having a warrant. The officer reviewed Tanner's driver’s license status and observed that it had been revoked in the state of Nebraska. During an inventory search of the vehicle, pending a tow for impound, the officer located a white crystalline substance that provided a presumptive positive test for methamphetamine. The officer further located glass pipes consistent with ingesting illicit substances. Tanner Nelson was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving During Revocation, No Valid Registration, Obstruction, and Hall County Warrants.
